Need Help Finding Parts

I am looking for the upper and lower bearings for the stub shaft of a 91 Z28 tilt steering column. I also need the upper bearing race and the preload cup. I know I could go to a junk yard but it might be hit and miss finding good bearings. There has to be someone out there that sells them. I have struck out so far looking online, and now turn to the forum and all of the expertise that I always find here. I appreciate any help in this situation.

You could try looking them up on www.compnine.com but the prices will be higher then your local GM dealer, and if they're discontinued they just won't show up in the list. At least the dealer can find the part numbers and do an inventory search.

Re: Need Help Finding Parts

Drew,

Thank you for the info. I will try to look up the part numbers tomorrow. Working on my steering column has become a real nightmare. I initially started out to just repair the horn wiring and fix the high-beam guide. Now, I had to take the telescoping stub shaft out and drill a hole in it to place a bolt and nut to keep the shaft from shifting in and out. I know this defeats the safety purpose of the shaft, but I didn't want to replace the entire shaft and deal with breaking plastic keys that keep the shaft from shifting except in the event of an accident. And, now, I have some broken bearing receptacles and 28 ball bearings. Fix one thing, break three more, that is the life of keeping a vehicle going and going.
