custom interior: something from nothing
custom interior: something from nothing
Just thought I post a few pictures of the interior I made for my son's 1984 Berreta. As you can see we started with nothing, not even the wiring was left in the car. The dash configuration was mapped out by my son in high school CAD/CAM class and is made out of 1/8" aluminum. I had a local metal shop bend it to my specs (one piece) and traced the pattern onto it. We drilled the holes by hand and after tracing the shape of the front from a discarded dash pad we cut it out with a skill saw. It was originally set up w/ the factory heater controls and defroster vents. We later chucked the heater and put a stereo receiver in its place.
The console was made with 1" wide x 1/8 aluminum strap as framing and the side panels are 3/16 hardboard with 1/2" foam and covered with automotive grade brushed velor. The top sections in black are 1/8" aluminum plate. I built in a glove box in the rear half, hinged it with a piano hinge and secured it with a tool box lock. The simple handle is made from a left over piece of the 1" aluminum strap that I formed over the wheel on the lawn mower.
The door panels are made from the same 3/16 hardboard, foam and material as the console. I'm no seamstress so there is no fancy stiching, pleats or tucks. Nothing fancy but its better than the bare steel doors.

Re: custom interior: something from nothing
Pretty nifty, I actually like the look a lot. Really "functional". But where are the cupholders dangit?!?
All kidding aside, Kudos on a job well done in my opinion
