'84 Camaro Berlinetta
'84 Camaro Berlinetta
I'm looking at buying my first 'maro and I found the (almost) perfect one.
The only problem is, its a Berlinetta and I am not a fan of the digital dash. At all. Basically my question is; if I'm planning on building a custom cluster for it in the near future, is the digital dash really all that difficult to swap out? I've been doing a little research and it seems like it might be harder than I first anticipated. The factory radio and HVAC controls would also be getting deleted and swapped back for a double-DIN and the normal HVAC controls, or something similar.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

The entire dash is different than a stock Camaro. I was thinking it would be great for modifying since you can still install a stock center console with some modifications or use a 4th gen console w/ a Firebird radio pod. -but the HVAC is out of the way. Then you could use the empty console area for a full screen or even a carputer.
For the cluster itself, it would have to be completely custom and also use the digital input from the transmission.
The buttons on the pods tend to fail, but it's a relatively easy fix. PM me if you actually get it.
If you're dead set on swapping thew HVAC to stock, I think you's need to swap the entire HVAC system. IIRC, it's a different system. I know someone that did an entire dash swap but they did an AC delete at the same time.

Yup,... The Berlinetta heater / AC system is VERY different than the regular Camaro. No easy conversion there !!!

Okay, so HVAC can be put on a back burner for now, but it will probably be done. I work in a performance shop so wild and crazy isn't outta reach, just outta budget for now. I'm planning on doing Autometer gauge cluster, completely relocating the gauges to where I want them, because a factory dash could be set up better, IMO. I'm thinkin that using all aftermarket gauges shouldn't be too difficult because all the wires I need should be in the harness, or are the Berlinettas really that difficult?

The Berlinetta engine uses the same sensors as any other Camaro - so if you can install custom gauges in a Camaro - you can do it in a Berlinetta too !
