Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
nope I scuffed the vinyl up real good before i put the fiber glass on to help adhesion. Also I used a ton of resin... I had a couple spots on the sides that I had to go back and resin but nothing major.

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
I think it looks really unique. I don't think I have ever seen anyone try to modify the stock dash in any way yet. I have wanted to pick up airbrushing for the past few years, but don't know how much/or lack of my art experience will be needed, and don't want to put down the money to buy one without knowing if I will stick with it.
Also I don't have the money for those gears sadly. Need every penny for that '90RS before I sell it. All I have to go is get a distributor, carb and put the motor and tranny in the car.

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
Thats alright I understand, as for the air brush U can get a decent one from ebay for like 20 bucks( be sure to get a dual action) and if you already have an air compressor it will run off it if you can set it down to like 40 psi. And as for skill just play around a bit use stencils for help and do what I do look at a lot of how to youtube videos for tips and help

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
I have a campbell hausfield air compressor and I watched sever airbrush videos on youtube a few months ago. I may spend the money and see if I like it. My friends dad took an airbrushing course and a painting course at the University of Evansville Over the last summer I believe.

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
Having painted several cars and done more fiberglass than I care to do, I can really appreciate the hard work that went into that. Not my style but it's also not my car. Good job!

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
Im planning on taking a crappy dash pad I got out of a junkyard and fiber glassing it then bondo-ing it then airbrushing some wicked graphics on it. I have searched and searched but I have not seen anyone do this before. If you have or know of someone who has let me know how it went, post some pics etc. Also let me know what you think of this idea I plan on posting pics and my progress as I go.

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
I filled the cracks that were in the dash with some silicone then I sanded the vinyl real good with 350 grit sand paper to rough it up, then I applied a good layer of resin then added a layer of fiberglass matt cloth. the added more resin and smoothed it out with a stiff bristle paint brush, mid you the whole "fiberglassing" part needs to be done quickly before the resin hardens all the way.

MSRED91, That is amazing! Great job! Original idea's are awesome.
I would love to have something like that in my car! And I have a spare Pad.
Just getting all the wear out of my new dash mat, before putting it in.

Re: Anyone done this or seen it done
So I finally got around to updating this thread sorry its been so long been busy with school. Anyways here is some pics of what I did this past summer and fall. One is a custom panel I made for under the hood which fits in where the nose section of the car is , it might be hard to see in the pics but it is a graveyard scene with a grim reaper and the tombstones have car names on them. The other is a tribal flame and demon face I pinstriped on another custom panel for where the Map pocket would be on fire birds, and both have my cars name "Demon Speed'n" on them. let me know what you think.
