Temp. Gauge Issue

All my gauges are stock and upon purchasing the car the temp gauge was broken (stuck in the full down position). I purchased one in working condition from my buddy, and after installing it, it bounces straight up after turning the ignition to the on position, and it gets stuck there. I put a piece of cardboard there and then it got stuck at the bottom, I just want to know what the hell is going on

Re: Temp. Gauge Issue

I don't understand the cardboard comment, but what you describe is explainable by a sender wire that's grounded when it shouldn't be. If the wire running to the sender unit between Cyl 1 & 3 is grounded (zero resistance), the Temp gauge will go full pop when you turn the key to On.

Re: Temp. Gauge Issue

I bought a new sending unit and wired it in and my temp gauge still doesn't work, i know that the ground wire can just be grounded to the frame, and it it, so should I run the other wire that runs to the gauge and make sure that it is in good condition?

Re: Temp. Gauge Issue

Crack open the cluster too. The needle might not be oriented property on its pin so you might try taking it off and setting again
