What are the benefits of white fog lights vs. yellow fog lights?

I want to get a pair of fog lights put onto my car. I'm not so much doing this just to look cool or make my car sportier looking. I'm doing this to keep my family safer in fog and other poor visibility driving conditions. All advice and comments are greatly appreciated.

Its more of a legality thing as far as I know. Yellow fog lights can only be turned on when there is visible fog present (here in colorado anyways) and I think that yellow is put stock on cars so as not to blind drivers going the opposite direction. White will provide more visibilty by far and is what most people I know use. I would recommend white.

Yellow looks absolutely horrible IMO, but from what I hear they are supposedly better.

I completely agree. I would go led because they draw less voltage and they are really bright

It was believed that yellow light was scattered less by water droplets in fog, but it's not really. Now it's mostly tradition.

Fog lights are more defined by their beam pattern rather than color. They have a wide angle beam that, when properly aimed, will not project as far as your headlights. They're designed to allow visibility to the shoulders and immediately to the front in low visibility conditions, not for distance.

A set of HID headlights made a huge difference for me in my other car.. I bought a set for my Firebird, but not installed yet.... I have noticed that if it's wet roads and many street lights, the lights are hard to see... but everywhere else, bright and far... I do have a set of fog lights on my bird, white and yellow (both white lenses, one set with yellow bulbs...)
