Step-by-step removing center console

Im debating if I should remove my center console before or after winter because the last time I attempted to remove it ( in my late 88 firebird ) chaos ensued so I'd like to know about a step-by step guide with bolts locations etc.

I tried search but it doesn't want to work on my ipod =

Thanks

Remove it like permenantly or are you trying to get to something? There isn't a lot holding it on just get a flashlight and search for fasteners.

I can get the top part mostly off, but only enough to change the bulbs in there. I can ever get enough room to search around.

Re: Step-by-step removing center console

yeah yeah, the center console. I know with my formula you take out the two 7mm screws under the lid and the two under the ash tray and the top part comes off

Re: Step-by-step removing center console

In a Camaro, the underdash panel on driver side needs to be removed as well.

Also on a Camaro, the top has to be removed BEFORE the bottom half can come out, as there is a 10mm bolt that holds the bottom to the floor under the center between the armrest and the shifter.

And on the Camaro, there are 1 or 2 7mm screws holding the bottom to the underside of the dash, I believe 1 on each side on the console.

Re: Step-by-step removing center console

Basically this is what I want to know how to remove. So I'm going to have to remove the console where the air temp controls and the radio are to do so ?

Yes. You can pop the radio bezel off and then there are some screws holding the HVAC controls down and two screws behind that holding the whole pod down.

There should be two under the console lid.

Re: Step-by-step removing center console

What comes out first, the shifter console or the HVAC and radio pod? I've got my radio pod loose, but it is hitting the dash when I try to remove it.

Do you have to remove part of the dash, or does the floor shift console come out first allowing the radio pod to come out next?

Center console is removed first.

Remove plastic cover over ebrake. Remove shift lever. Remove center console trim (2 7mm bolts rear, bolt under the metal ash tray).

Remove the 2 or 3 bolts holding the center console to the frame. Remove center console (have your ebrake as high as it'll go, helps).

Now you can remove the radio pod.
