Is there anyway to install an aftermarket steering wheel on a 1990 RS with airbag
I have Grant Challenger series steering wheel that my bro gave to me. But i was wondering if there's anyway i can install it because on the grant website they don't have the installation kit for the 1990 year Camaro because of the airbag sysytem i believe. The wheel used to be on a 1989 camaro. Has someone ever done this before? Is there a way to install it? I'd appreciate any input thanks.

I believe all you would have to do is remove the steering wheel and all the airbag stuff and install it like you would in the 89. I've seen many 90-92 3rd gen's with grant steering wheel's. Your ses light would always be on after you remove all that stuff.

I'm not quite sure you can check and see if the adapter fits with it on if so you can just leave it on there.
Edit: I forgot there was a tech article on here about this. https://www.thirdgen.org/airbag alot of the time you'll find alot of stuff you need to know in the tech articles.

it can be done.
1st disconnect the battery.
then remove steering wheel, there will be the a disk that is about 1/2" thick, it will have to come off. you will have to look for an adapter, look and see which one is the most general for GM cars as they do not list one for air bagged columns. you may have to do some trimming of the cover to make it fit.
assemble and your good to go.
this worked for me. but I have to keep my bagged wheel and put it back on for a day once a year. the car has to have an air bag to pass safety inspection.

Not true. Your SES light is not tied into the airbag system and as long as you don't disable the sensor's you air bag light won't come on either.
I have a Grant in my 91 Z. Use the mounting kit for the 89 car and you just have to trim down the back of the black cover. I bought one from here already modified. I pulled the clock spring (yellow module) out of the column since it will not be used, but I don't believe it was necessary to do so for everything to mount up.
I'm feeling nice. Here is a link to the mounting kit.

i also removed the same parts and had a grant wheel for a while. use an install kit for the 89. right now i have a restored factory leather steering wheel in the car, using the stock components.
