Re: interior led

I have.

I used 3in LED strips under each dash to light the floorboards in the front.

I used the windshield washer nozzle LEDs to light the rear floorboards - I mounted thenm in the center console, on the rear corners, so they shine down into the rear floorboards.

I also used a license plate bolt LED inside the center console. It attches right inside the hole where the adjustment used to run through for the 83/84 center console clock - look in the front of the console and you'll see the hole - it's a perfect fit for a license plate LED.

These LEDS (front & rear floorboards & inside console) are tied into the light switch so that anytime the lights are on, the LEDs are on. I also have them tied into the door jamb switches, so that when the doors are opened, the LEDs are on. This took relays to accomplish, as the headlight switch switches on a + and the door jamb switch switches on a ground. IIRC, I used 2 relays, one changes the ground signal from the door jamb switch into a + for the LEDs, the other relay is inbetween the LED circuit and the headlight switch - without this second relay, everytime I opened my doors, my park lights came on (power backfeeding from doorjamb switch through 1st relay and powering the park lights).

These above mentioned LED's are all green - my car color is Candy Teal green, and so I'm running a theme as it were.

I also replaced the overhead cabin light with an LED array - I think it has 48 LEDs on a small board - fits right in where the balloon lamp was at, and I just wired it to the existing wires. I have the overhead center console with the flashlight, so it only comes on when I turn it on with the console switch, and it's bright as can be - very blinding, but really lights up the cabin with extremely white light.

In the spring, I'll be redoing my headliner. At that time, I plan on swapping the overhead console maplight (the one that swivels) with an green LED that is rigged into the headlight switch also - I'd like to have a soft green glow to the center console so that window/trunk switches and cup holder I installed are easier to see at night.

Oh, and in the rear of the car, I've made a "shelf" that sits on the two humps on each side of the rear well - I have my amp mounted on the underside, and 2 subs 10's mounted in the "shelf". Inbetween the 2 subs, I have a Bowtie symbol that is lit with green EL Wire - I simply cut a piece of hobby plywood out into the bowtie shape, drilled a hole at each corner, and strung the EL wire in and out of the the holes until the entire bowtie shape was formed with the EL wire - this is wired to the amp power on wire from my stereo, and thus it glows anytime my stereo is on.

Soon, the rear hatch light will be replaced with an LED array as well.

If/when expendable cash comes along again, I'd like to get an extra set of door sills, and cut out the bowtie in them, mounting some LED under there so that they light up with the door opening. Or maybe do something in the sail panels.

Looking forward to hear about others ideas and accomplishments!

Some guys have swapped out the regular interior bulbs for leds.

You could take a LED strip and hook it up under the dash for more foot lighting (in any color you like).

Put LED lights in the door to turn on when the door opens.

Put LEDs in the side mirrors to blink (thus lighting up the mirror housing) when you flick the turn signel level.

Re: interior led

Once I get around to the Interior phase of my Camaro's build, I will replace all the interior lights with LEDs. The dash will be red if I don't go digital, all the interior lighting will be done with blacklight LEDs(car will be black on black/red trim). In addition to the places mentioned in the previous posts, I will be recessing one LED in each dash vent to give them a backlit or glow effect.

Wish I did. My camera isn't that great - I tried taking pics one evening with no luck - lights are hard to pic since you have to do it at night to see the lights, but there's not enough light to make a pic unless you overexpose, and you need a tripod for that which I don't have.

This is what I used in the overhead console light - it was just the right size that I just stuck it in (the contacts from the OEM balloon light just hold the edges of the panel). http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Interior-36-...09462255242863
