I have searched and searched, as this should be a pretty obvious/common issue, but i cannot get my center console out and i have already broken a small piece.

I have removed the screws from the back of the console, and tried putting the shifter in 1st with the ebrake all the way up. It will budge a little, but something is definitely still screwed down somewhere.

Does the shifter **** have to be removed? Is the center console bolted up front anywhere (near radio,etc)? Does the black "shifter panel" with the power accessory buttons have to be removed seperately?

All i want to do is change the carpet, this is last piece left! thanks in advance.

 

remove the shifter plate, there's a metal bracket under there screwed to the floor It's also bolted up to the console on the sides.

 

I cannot get the shifter plate out. have removed shifter ****, and everything i can find that might be related.

It is loose in the back/middle, but seems stuck in the front. Does the cigarette lighter need to come out?

How much slack do i have in all these connectors? Do i need to remove them to get the shifter plate out, or to get the console lifted up enough to change the carpet?

Sounds like you missed some screws

 

Where are the screws that hold the shifter plate in place? I'm not i have found any of these. Only screws that go into the main piece of the console.

I have also removed the stereo, and unbolted the a/c controls. Still, nothing.

 

There may be a screw under the ashtray. If you have the shifter **** off and removed the two screws from the rear of the plate there is only one left.If there is no screw under the ashtray then the plate is just stuck to the console

Everything is unbolted, now i just have to figure how to disconnect the 800000 wires gonig to the console. Most look straight forward, but there are a couple in the back of the console that dont appear to have quick disconnects.

I just did the entire interior on my 89 RS. I still have the top of the center console off so if you need any guidance, feel free to PM me.

I'm taking the dash off next to change the lights to LEDs if possible, fix the top pad and also fix that darn tachometer
