anyway to restore center armrest?

i have a 82-84 trans am center armrest from a junk yard.

it started coming up in one corner. its not cracked its actually in great condition. but the foam inside was all wet n rotted

i was able to peel off the top cover and pull out the bad foam.

has anyone ever tried replacing the foam in side? im considering trying this stuff from home depot which is called amazingly enough "STUFF"

its expanding foam and i figure thats how GM got the foam in there to begin with by squirting it through a hole in the plastic underneath

any thoughts?

expanding foam expands unevenly, and ive seen it blow out sheetrock whentoo much is put in, basically buy some stiff foam, pull the vynal up, cut foam, reapply. glue is a magic thing!

Foam shops will have the kind you need, the expanding foam is mostly a hard foam and would crush anyways.
If you find a reputable shop, I'd just bring it in and see what they suggest. Otherwise a fabric place may have generic foam as well, but know that there's different densities as well.

Density

*

The quality of polyurethane is determined by the weight of 1 cubic foot of the foam. The weight of the foam is indicative of its density. The density level of the best quality foam will be between 1.8 and 3.2, though that rating may appear, for example, as #21 instead of 2.1. The better the foam quality, the longer it will last and spring back. For seat cushions, look for 2.5 or higher for the density rating.
