hvac control replacement

everything i can see how they disconnect except how does the steel cable disconnect so i can replace the entire heater/ac controls? i see how it loops or hooks on but what do you do without ruining something to get enough slack to un hook the steel cable?

Re: hvac control replacement

Is this in your firebird? Are you talking about how to disconnect the cable from the back of the controls?

If Im understanding your dilemma...I had good success from removing the radio pod. Then the HVAC controls just sort of dangle there and you can move them around as much as you need to get things off. I cant imagine being able to remove that cable easily with the pod in place.

Otherwise, that cable pretty much doesnt have much play in it.

That cable is held on to the unit with a tab that pops into a hole at the back edge of the unit. That will allow you to move it around more, but you may have to remove the whole console to get some slack back there. I've never done it, but it should work. I'd love to hear that there is an easier way though!

Re: hvac control replacement

just to clarify the entire console is already removed the cable is looped around alittle hook under the unit. it seems to be on there pretty tight and didnt want to ruin anything trying to get it off. but i'll figure it out thanks

Re: hvac control replacement

The thing I meant was that the cable pops off at the back of the unit if you pry it gently away from it and allows you to swivel it around to undo the hooked on part. Where it looks like the cable is attached is where it comes off
