Shifter ****

I have a 1986 Iroc Z camaro. It has a Ball shifter ****, im re doing in the interior, i want to put a brand new shifter plate in that fits over the console cause mine is very shot.
Im wondering if a T handle like a trans am will fit on directly?
Or will a square one from a later camaro will fit?

yes but you need to swap the entire shifter assembly since the clip locations are different

Re: Shifter ****

I have a T/A shifter **** of my Camaro, without switching the assembly, I don't use the clip and it stays on fine and works fine.

Re: Shifter ****

im guessing i should just go for it, wont be that expensive. see what happens.
im thinking about going for the Trans am shifter, handle grip is alot nicer i think.
any opinions?
Is changing the shifter assembly that complicated??

4 bolts and a clip holding the wires to the assembly.

Re: Shifter ****

id get the entire assembly, junkyards would probably be cheaper. just take the torx to get the shifter plate screws out, take out the 4 bolts. i think they are 13mm, and take a flathead screw driver to pop the clips off then remove. easy as that!
