Fatmat on door panels?

I cant decide if I should put my Fatmat on the door itself, or on the back of the door panels. I'm hoping to quiet down some of the squeaks and rattles in the door, as well as reduce road noise. Has anyone here put the mat on the door panels instead of the door? Does it cause any issues getting the panel back on?

You can put it on the door panels without any issues (brackets stick out like 3/8" or so), but it's not going to quiet anything down with the gaps around the window glass. Best bet would be to put some sort of cushioning around the rods and what not as they run around the door shell.

If you've taken the door panels off, check for junk inside the door rattling around... both of my doors had large chunks of some hardened red goo that was making a ton of noise rattling around.

Those chunks would be factory body seam sealer broken off... Might want to find out where they came from.

I've already cleaned mine out, it was just some old leaves. So it's a waste of time putting Fatmat in the doors?

Re: Fatmat on door panels?

I used SmittyMats.com

find em on ebay too but their online store is cheaper

and put it on the back side of the door pannel.

the hosed down insides of the door with rattle can truck bed liner.

Water will get into doors sooner or later.
better protection with the liner and stop the tin sound of the outter skin.

Re: Fatmat on door panels?

I have used several, but Dynamat performs the best for me. Line the inside of the outer skin and the outside of the inner skin. Use Vacuum tube on all the door rods and double up on the Dynamat at the contact points where the rods hit the door skin, PARTICULARLY the lock rod.
Remove and thoroughly clean and lube the latch mechanism, door handle and lock. That will help a LOT too...
I am writing a how-to on the door handle to post soon...
