Save a door panel?

Dilemma: Good door panels with bad cardboard backing.
Anybody ever replace the backing to save a good door panel? A quick inspection shows the front cover folded around the back and sewn through the backing....looking like it may be tough to replace.

Any Ideas?

Re: Save a door panel?

i have repaired/salvaged a couple of door panels with a hot glue gun . not sure how much damage you are trying to repair , just suggesting an often overlooked tool . good luck .

Re: Save a door panel?

You SHOULD be able to gently remove it from the backing (actually, it might work to soak the panel in a pool of water until the cardboard just dissolves away) and then cut a new one out of panel board or marine ply...
