89 bird console

I am having trouble taking out the center console. Mine looks different than what is posted on the 91 camero. I have only found 2 back bolts in the box, one in the ashtray and two below the power windows. How does the automatic shifter come off and the EB???? thanks

Apply the parking brake and put the shifter into First gear. Pull the clip out of the front of the shift **** and pull the **** straight up and off. The shift indicator plate will be hard to pull up and off-don't break it. Lift the rear of the plate first and then the front, unplugging the compartment light, shift indicator light, power window and mirror switches (if equipped) and then the lighter when you get to the front. There is one bolt attaching the console to the back of the shifter, it's a 10mm head, and then you pull the console back and lift it up. Lift the rear first, and guide the parking brake lever out of the slot (another reason to apply the brake).

Re: 89 bird console

The bolt/nut (i forget which it was a few months ago) to the shifter bracket was what stumped me for awhile in my 91 Firebird.
