How to remove upper rear seats

So i'm tradeing out my seats for fouthgen seats right now I have having trouble with the rear. my plan seemed simple i was going to remove the seat brackets from the back pull the seat. Then install the seat belt bracket back to the back of the fourthgen rear. however the bolts that hold those in has a star bit and I have so far gone through two bits and only gotten one side out. Is there an easier way to get it out with out me buying more bits and no, i'm not cutting the seat belts. Any help would be great. thanx

Maybe you need better quality bits. Also make sure the 'start' is cleaned out and the bit is pushed (hammered?) in all the way.

The 'star' shape is called Torx. Do you mean you are having trouble getting out the seat belt housings themselves or, the post that the upper rear seat bracket attaches to?

As Base91 said, make sure the top of the bolt is clean, seat the bit as straight as you can and give the top of your ratchet a few taps to really seat the bit. Speaking of ratchets, use the biggest one you have; it will be easier to remove. If you have torx bit kit, note that even though they seemingly look close in size, a next number up may sometimes do the trick.

Regarding the upper part of the back seat, you need to remove the bottom cushions so that you can access a bolt on each side. You'll need a 13mm socket or wrench for that.

Actually, go here to see the 1A guys Camaro video on this topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLB8uGgqiB0

Those bolts have about an inch long area of loctite on them from the factory, thats why they're so hard to get out. I actually snapped one of them off when removing the seat belts, didn't really have much of a choice though because its impossible to get any heat on them to loosen them up.

If you do snap them off and want to reuse the seat at some point, you can remove the hog rings at the bottom of the seat cover, peel the seat cover off, and once the cover is off you'll be able to see the whole bolt, move the foam out of the way and put some heat on it without worrying about the seat cover catching on fire.

Re: How to remove upper rear seats

Umm, guys, you're making this WAAAY harder on yourselves than it has to be...

Remove the lower seat, and then by the side trim covering the bottom seatbelt retractor, there is a nut. Remove the nut. One on each side. Then you pull the hinge up and out of the body bracket, and swing the end of the seat slightly forward if you have the split rear seat and slide it off of the inner post. Or just lift it up and out on both sides if it's a single-piece seat.

:edit: As for the seatbelt parts, I didn't have any problems removing the seatbelt retractor assembly from the junkyard car when I cut the quarter off... Probably need better bits (T47, not T45). I seriously doubt the loop on the back of the seat is held in any better than the one on the headrest up front... Only seatbelt part I've had that ever gave me fits was the passenger's side front floor retractor... Got the rest out with a 1/4 allen wrench (hex key) even .
