Steering Wheel Swap
Steering Wheel Swap
I have a 1990 Firebird Formula Edition, 305 TPI with the 5 speed.
I recently switched to a GT grant wheel and when we took it out for a test spin I noticed some differences.
1) No snap back. You know how when you turn the wheel to make a turn the wheel adjust back to straight? That's not happening now.
2) The steering seems 'stiffer' than before by a considerable amount.
Did we torque down the bolts too much?
Any ideas and input would be GREAT.

Re: Steering Wheel Swap
I am about to install a new grant wheel myself. I believe your car had an air bag. I have read that most airbag cars have had to trim back the original plastic on the the car because if not the grant wheel will rub a little , causing the symptoms you have listed. Hopefully all you have to do is shave a little off and you will be fine, maybe someone else who did the install could offer more insight.
