Steering Column
Steering Column
What is the difference between a manual trans steering column, and an auto trans steering column?
My car is a T5, and I have that depress lever to release the key. Not sure what it does, but it was annoying at first.
What does an auto trans car have, and why are they different ?

Re: Steering Column
An automatic column does not have the manually actuated lockout. Instead it has internal provisions for a cable that locks the ignition until the car is shifted into park, and likewise prevents the car from being shifted until the key is turned.
The idea behind this was to prevent people from accidentally locking the column while driving simply by bumping the ignition.
