Getting at the a/c flapper doors

I would like to be able to perhaps lube the flapper doors that control the air movement through the a/c-heater system. Is that necessary and can I do it without pulling the dash apart? They seem to be reluctant to open and close...

I lubed mine when I took the dash apart. They work great now. I also bought some foam weatherstrip and re-insulated everything.
