Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch? Or am I going to have to take off the whole freaking dash first. The crotch waffles (POs) that worked on this car had no Idea what they were doing and they didsomething weird with the head light switch. I'm guessing that maybe the mount or something broke inside and the switch became loose so they did... THIS:

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

I should add that I already got a new headlight swirch because the one that was there was so messed up. Now I need to put it back in, and I'm not sure if there is an easy way to doing it or not. Any help?

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

have you gotten the **** and shaft out yet? there is a little pushbutton that you have to push to get the **** shaft out. you will have to play with it a little. then it should be easy. if you cant do it drive it over here and ill show you how to do it. so you may need to look at the wiring schematics to see where the wire goes. shouldnt be too bad to fix it.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

I got the ****/shaft out (me and this guy at Advanced Auto had to try pushing that button really hard for like 15 minutes before in came out haha), the switch works just fine. No wiring issues. The only actual "problem" is that its hanging out of the dash, and needs to be put back in so that the **** is sticking out of the hole. I have to go get safty inspection angain and I'm pretty sure it wont fly.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

the switch has a screw thing on the front, it goes into the dash spot, behind the trim panel and that nut holds it in the dash. it looks like they replaced the stock switch with a different switch without the nut provision.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

you should be able to take the trim panel off and snake the switch into its correct spot without taking the whole dash apart. you may have to do it from the bottom, or pull the cluster out and see if you can get at it from the side.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

I don't know if all of this is stock. I know these GM guys are lazy, but in general its at least messy and out of site. Some of this stuff was hanging down even with the panel on.

Also I just reallized that the face of the dash on the drivers side comes off seperatly from the rest of the dash ( ). So i'll probably just take that off.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

I have no idea what these screw jobs did. Could be the self destruct wiring for all I know. Maybe a kill switch, he said something about a tv under the seat or something. OH YAH. there's more wiring tucked under the drivers seat.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

Yah. They weren't totally negligent. But I think the transmission going out ws the best thing that ever happend to this car haha. It would have been in much worse condition if it had been drivable when I got it. Those guys really used this thing. Prob would have had another 15-30k on the odometer too.

if you cant read and understand a wiring schematic, you need to learn. i foresee some wiring problems poping up.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

mine had all those connectors like that from the alarm previously installed. schematic--check soldering iron--check wire and heat shrink--check. all back normal--priceless.

Re: Is there an easyier way to swap out the head light switch?

Yah. I called the PO and left a message. I know he did some after market stuff. He def had some bass speakers in the back (or at least there is still wiring for bass), but there are no bass speakers to be found (thats probably where the back lid went though). I ordered a Chilton manual off of Amazon and that should be here Wednesday. The saga continues...
