Tired of reading after hours of looking for this.

I want a 4th gen center console to go in my 91 bird with a 5 speed. Most I have seen people are doing autos. Can't search on manual and auto because they are always used...

Best I can tell I am good with the radio pod and I need 97 to 02 camaro console or any firebird console unless I want 4 cupholders then I need 97 up firebird console.

BUT, since I have a 5 speed standard trans (and want 4 holders) I am assuming I need the 97 up camaro or firebird console for a standard.

The confusion comes in because it looked like some were getting an automatic console and then buying a manual plate?

I am going to try to get one tomorrow at a yard.

Get a 97 console and put the top plate of a manual on it.Mine has the four coup holders and its for an automatic transmission.Too much work goes into making an auto 3rd gen assembly work with a fourthgen.Too much modification has to be done. So people just use a console with a manual top plate.Ill post a picture

a camaro console from 93-97 wont work because of the cassette/CD storage area. i dunno about the 98-02 cosoles on camaros.

i have a 93-97 bird in my FORMULA and it bolts right up. there are 2 tabs on the front of the console that will beed to be lopped off. you will also need to figure out what to do about your window buttons and mirror buttons.

the common thing to do is put them in the ashtray but being i use my ashtray for change and i dont want to flip a lid everytime i roll down my windows i used a dremel and cut 2 holes to fit them infront of the shifter. then i moved my mirror button on the side of the console which works out killer as its very comfortable to access.

the window buttons are no issue ither. i later was glad i didnt put the dr side of the other side of the shift indicator as it would have taken a little more effort to acces them. hince why they put them close from the factory. some folks say my shifter makes them hard to reach but i have yet to find their position uncomfortable and i have had the 4th gen console in my car for about 7½ years.

BTW, i snagged a accesory plug from a mid 90s GM truck to clean up the cig lighter as i dont smoke and my factory cig lighter has NEVER been used.

 

the 98 to 00 have 2 cup holders. the 01-02 have 4 cup holders. The manual center console will go in without any mods. The Auto center console requires quite a bit of dremel work to make it fit. Search the boards, there are a ton of threads on it.
