Painted some interior parts.

Scored some 82 door sills off a T/A this weekend at the local U-Pull it and a set of seat belt holders. Painted them black along with the back seat side panels. Here is the before and after. I am very happy with how they came out. I used the Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Spray paint in flat black.

What did you do to prep them, any primer? I would think a thin coat is better than a thick coat on something like this, yes?

Re: Painted some interior parts.

I gave all the parts a bath with dish soap. Then did about 6 or 7 very light coats, waiting a couple minutes in between each coat. Thin is much better than thick. I tried to follow this thread as close as possible. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ic-carpet.html Also used a prep spray on the back seat side panels because the plastic was so dry. The vinyl and fabric spray doesn't really require any primer, just a very clean surface. The end result looks like they were always the new color, doesn't look bad at all.

Looks good now and I hope it lasts...Ive seen people paint interior plastics in the past and unfortunately the paint starts to chip and then you have to repaint or eventually replace the plastics.

Thanks, From what I've read about this paint and how it looks right now I don't think it will chip. IMHO it looks like the plastic is black and not painted(My best paint job to date). I hope it last too. This is not my first paint job and I've learned a lot along the way, the lighter the coats and the better the prep the less likely you are to have issues, patience and decent paint helps a lot too.

Re: Painted some interior parts.

If you did a prep job, cleaning, adhesive promoter,I would not worry about the paint coming off.You might see some wear on the sill plates down the road because of the color change, were it's located, people stepping on them. All the other pieces I wouldn't worry nobody touches that area, just be careful putting stuff in the cargo area.
I did mine this year but I didn't change the color,Carmine on Carmine.
Good Job
