Alright so i picked up some universal racing seats for my 1991 camaro z28 on ebay. They are nice seats, for 230$ i got both seats, sliders, and 4 point harnesses. The only problem is i need to buy some seat brackets/mounts to mount the new seats to the floor of the car. I was wondering if anybody has already gone through this and knows what to get/do.

 

I used the factory bits and welded some extensions to get the bolt pattern for the seat.

 

so you used the mounts from the stock seat and welded a long piece of metal to make it compatible with the ground?

 

And how do you plan on mounting the 4 point harness? Please dont say the floor pan.

 

For my part, I used a three point, but the idea is the same (and the hardware is there for 4 point later). I reused the stock mounting locations on the sides of the seat for two points and then the shelf of the cargo area for the rear straps. I know, bad right? Dropped the fuel tank and welded in a 6" wide sheet of 1/4" thick steel plate under that bit of the floor pan and tacked grade 8 nuts to it in appropriate locations. Holes were drilled through the trunk pan, and x-cuts made in the carpet. I still haven't even looked at anti-submarine mounting yet.

I used the stock brackets for sliding and mounting to the floor. On my seats, that worked out with respect to width of seat mount holes, but the front to back distance was longer on the seat than the bracket, so I just welded some hardware on strips of steel and bolted it all together.

 

Yea im still in the middle of somehow making a mount for the seats, i took the stock ones off, drilled holes to match the length only to find out im short width wise. Im getting pissed off and about to make a templet and make custom ones.
