Inner door handle replacing

I'm currently working on an '88 IROC i bought that seems plagued with problems. Currently i need to replace the door handle on the inside since it broke. I bought A Chiltons repair manual, but it doesn't say anything about removing/replacing the inner door handle. Does anyone know how to replace it? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Inner door handle replacing

Pop the door panel off, and it's pretty easy to tell how to replace it

Re: Inner door handle replacing

You just have to drill out the rivet(s) and disconnect the rod. I replaced mine with an aftermarket one. Mistake. Really weak spring and it would not snap back into place. Get one from the OEM or the junkyard...

Re: Inner door handle replacing

Thank you. I had the panel off and couldn't tell if it cam off from the rivet on the metal bracket, of the pivoting rod through the handle itself.
