Another A-Pillar Dilemma

So i found that Lowes actually carries the GM nylon fastners that will suffice for A-pillar installation. I cleaned up a straight, quality set i got from a buddy for my 90' t-top Iroc. Re-applied 3M weather stripping and put in the nylon fastners. Got the drivers's side pillar in without any problems and while it's not saggin from the front view (where you'd see it from sitting in the drivers seat) ther is still a noticeable gap on the outside looking into the car between the actual a-pillar and the a-pillar trim. Is this just a case of the fastner being too short? Does anyone else have this same gap, perhaps it's normal, or understand what i'm talking about w/out a pic? Advice, ideas appreciated, thanks.
