What is this?

I dont have a picture yet but i found something in my 83 firebird between the ttops near the dome light a little piece that pops out i wouldnt think anything of it but it says firebird looks like an old 8 track kinda square and u can open it up and put batteries in it with an on off switch. little bulb maybe like the one on a remote to a tv. Any idea what it is its weird as hell.

It sounds like you have a overhead console and that is the flashlight that came in them. The flashlights can be hard to find but I would not say they are necessarily rare.

RPO DK6 (the overhead console) doesn't show in 83. According to the Camaro White Book, 84 was the first year, 87 the last. At any rate, the following link might provide some interesting info:
