Hatch trim panel question
I have a question regarding the trim panel on the hatch itself, the one covering all of the spoiler bolts/holes and the latch loop bracket... What is the deal with the 2 slots that are in the middle towards the front of the panel (driver's seat side as installed)? I have 3-4 of these (2 junk and 2 keepers, I think) that don't have them, just got one that has them, and I see another as part of a full trim set on eBay that have them. What are they for? I've never seen a car in person that has these and/or uses them.

Much easier if you post pics, but it could be that some came with a provision for the rear shade attachment. These would also have a metal piece on the inside for reinforcement.

Re: Hatch trim panel question
I guess that explains it... I never did look at the one on the 91 at the J/Y that I know for sure had the shade (I have the passenger's side bracket as I cut the whole back corner of the car off). Yes, they have metal brackets riveted behind them. I would have thought they would have riveted the bracket to the deck lid, but I guess they thought differently...

Re: Hatch trim panel question
The only reason I found out is because I've swapped interior parts around and was just going to add the holes but noticed the brace on the one that had the holes.
My thinking is that it just needed to be strong enough to pull the shade and by keeping it on the plastic piece they could keep costs down.
