Plastic Seats and still access rear
Hey guys,
I am looking to get rid of my stock power seats (from what I understand, 55 lbs a piece) and am looking to get a set of summitracing or equivalent plastic seats.
What I am trying to find is if anyone has seen or made brackets for these seats to allow them to slide or tilt forward far enough to still allow access to the back seat?
On my old car, I had summit high back plastic seats and a roll cage, so there was no way to access the rear. Now I am wondering if I can keep my rear seats and design a bracket to allow access to that area.
Thoughts?

Re: Plastic Seats and still access rear
you can use a few diff seat brackets from GM to work on aftermarket seats.
the power seat rail is only about 12 lbs more. then the non power seat rail.
it's a few hrs of work. but can be done..

I am more thinking about something that would allow the seat to flip forward and grant access to the rear of the car. I get what you are saying, and I could build something similar, but I am wondering if anyone has successfully kept and accessed their back seats with racing style front seats.

The Factory seat belts wont be a problem, they mount to the body of the car and mnot to the seat, if you are running a 5 point harness that wil be a problem as they should be tied into the cross bar of a cage so that they dont pull down in the event of a crash, they should pull straight back.

Not sure that I understand your intent. If you want racing seats, I'd assume that you are going to do some racing and would have racing style "H" or "Y" (3 or 5 point)seat belts. If you aren't, why have racing seats? As I'm sure that you know, most plastic/steel racing seats have holes for racing belts. If you just want the "look" you are correct that you can use the stock seatbelts remembering that belt angles come into play if you are involved in an accident. That being said, it's your ride and you should have it the way you want it. You might want look at some off-road jeep-like stuff that just have a hinge to enable you to flip it forward but I'm not sure if it has the same mounting integrity as a stock seat.

So my goals for switching the seats are more head room, I need like an inch and a half or two inches since I will eventually be wearing a helmet in the car. Also, stock power seats = 110 pounds, aftermarket seats should weigh half of that or less.

And obviously I am not doing this for the look of racing seats, if I fit in the stock seats I would leave them alone. I am probably less safe with my head touching the roof than I would be with something modified. I don't plan on putting a cage in this car, so I doubt 5 point harnesses are an option.

Got it. Yes, height can be a problem in the 3rd gens. How about these low profile slider mounts for Poly seats...http://www.jegs.com/p/RCI/RCI-Poly-S...63818/10002/-1
I'd still be concerned about the seatbelt angles and where the belts cross your body in the event of an accident
