Differences in the main dash componenets?
Differences in the main dash componenets?
I'm having some issues with the digital dash in my 88 GTA and I'm considering building a custom dash panel with a Racepak dash unit in it. Is the primary dash unit that bolts to the car body the same between the digital dash cars and the analog dash cars?
The reason I'm asking is I'm considering using the gauge panel from an analog car as the starting point to build the mounting surface for the Racepak unit. The swap would involve removal of the digital gauges and the information center with the unit being replaced with an analog gauge panel with the gauage holes filled and the panel recovered and fitted with the racepak unit. This will only work if there aren't differences in the base dash that would prevent the analog gauge panel from being attached.

I believe the dash that bolts to the car is different between the digital and analog.

The entire dash that bolts to the body of the car, not just the cluster, is specific to cars that were originally equipped with digital dash.

Hmmmm.... This would mean I need to adjust plans on how to build the dash face to use a Racepak panel instead of factory gauges. If the entire dash is different, then the gauge plate for an analog car probably won't fit to the digital dash base after removing the digital dash components.
