The cluster is dimmed by rotating from the headlight switch.

Re: Instrument cluster
Thank you for that.
Another question ,is it possible for only part of the headlight switch to go out ? The head lights work fine.I would imagine the instrument cluster lights would be a totally separate part of the switch. Is that true ?

Re: Instrument cluster
Follow up,
It did turn out to be the headlight switch.Getting to it was a hole different mater.
My Chilton says go through the front/cluster to get at it.I made it half way in and just said "no way" .I took a better look at what I was dealing with and decided to go directly up from under and get to it by unbolting the fuse box and the fuse box mounting bracket.I did what was necessary to the front of the switch so all that was left was getting it out. Once that was out of the way the switch literally fell down into my hand harness and all.
PS,just so you know there are three screws holding the fuse box bracket, one is on a post that reaches way up and inside the dash. I took out the first two but that last one was a no go.The screw holding it came in from the top of the post so there is no getting it from the bottom. After contemplating the insanity involved in its design by GM, I gave the plastic bracket a little twist and out it came. It just needed a little modification, that's all.
