Air bag question

Hello i have a 91 rs with the air bag in the steering wheel. My steering wheel was shot and i happened on to a new one at a swap meet. My question is is there any way of takeing the deployment cartridge out of the air bag. Alot of the electrical on this car has been tampered with and some of it even gone with wires and plugs everywhere just kinda hanging. I dont mind the look of the OEM steering wheel and would just as soon keep it but i would also like to remove that cartridge so by some strange instance it dosnt just randomly go off. Plus the out skin on the air bag has come lose on one cornor and i need to stretch it back and would like to be able to do this without eating the air bag point blank. Any information or possible links that would assist in this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Air bag question

The air bag is a sealed unit. Never heard of an air bag deploying by itself if the system is not working. If your worried about it going off, just leave the connector unplugged.

Re: Air bag question

I can attest it won't go off by itself, it needs a specific ignition. I had one recently that we shot with several different calibre and then threw in a bonfire, couldn't get it to go off.
