Overall interior

I have an '86 that I am working on and my interior is bad at best. my dash is what is bugging me the most at the moment, it has a major crack on the passenger side. my question regarding this is if there is a good way to fix this that is cost effective or is it just better to replace? I have carmine red seats that luckily are not faded very bad and not split or tearing at all (thank god) and my T's are in excellent shape and my seals are like new. Atleast last I saw..... my center console has some issues opening but has held together fairly well for the time it has sat. I am new to restoration and any advice that could be given to me would be very appreciated!!!

Re: Overall interior

You can temporarily fix some dash cracks, but really it's better to replace the dash pad when they get that brittle as cracks usually start coming up in new places and spreading. It's kind of a never-ending process when they get like that. Some people have had luck with used dashes, but I would insist on picking up a used one in person as they almost always get damaged when shipped. New dash pads are available, but are very pricey. You might consider just a cap for the dash -- although they don't always look correct or fit 100%, they are far cheaper than a new dash pad.

If your seats are in good shape (not ripped) and you just want to get some color back in them, I would recommend dyeing them. Check this thread here for some good info on cost effective DIY interior resto https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ic-carpet.html

Re: Overall interior

I appreciate the advice. I saw a very good thread last night about dyeing the seats and restoring interior. I have carmine seats and I really like them a lot and know carmine is really hard to find.
Thankyou again.
