how do you install a cargo shade
my car was a non cargo shade camaro, and i got some black plastics for it that have the holes for the cargo shades. how do you get the mounts for the shade? are they welded on a car under the plastics that came with the shade or bolted on the car? i need to know so i can get the mounts and put them ion my car. what kind of work is involved in this? and how easy is it to do?

The factory has a welded bracket behind the interior plastic.

do you think there is a way to remove that bracket from one car and install it on another?

Im sure there is. Sawsall the part out of a Junkyard car and grind the base metal off the back of the bracket. Then you could just use sheetmetal screws/loctite, panel bond or weld it to your car. the plastic panels has a area marked to cutout for the shade plastic escutcheon.

Don't forget the hatch plastic has holes in it so the shade can hook into them. You will also need the inner hatch plastic if you don't have it already. My RS has the shade and it's a nice option.

Re: how do you install a cargo shade
I have a bunch of shade mts . they just clip in the plastic . dont remember any steel brackets though , could be wrong, they are held in by 2 screws you need to cut small holes in the plastic panels to reses them . i did this with my car ,works fine w/o any steel mts . let me know if you need a couple of mts.

Re: how do you install a cargo shade
The steel mounts are welded to the body to help keed the plastic from warping because the cargo shade is spring loaded and pushes outward some. It will work without them. Since my car didn't come with the shade, I made small wood standoffs for my plastic escutcheon to screw to so the trim panel wouldn't push/bow out.

Re: how do you install a cargo shade
that makes sense . mine seem ok . I checked them after your reply and their so close to the back seat pins that I 'm ok without having the brackets . any way I just found the extra mts I'll sell them for $12 shipped in the 48 let me know. only have the shade mts not the catches!
Re: how do you install a cargo shade
I screwed my cargo shade mounts directly to my trim pieces without recessing them, they've held up so far and it works great.

Re: how do you install a cargo shade
I cut out the metal pieces already mentioned and screwed them to the body. It was a bit tricky getting them located properly to the body so the plastic caps would be located corect.y. It is frotunate that the outline for the hole is molded to the inner trim panels so at least that is a help to locate them. You'll also need to either swap the plastic trim panel that mounts to the underside of the hatch from a t-top car or at least swap in the metal reinforcing piece and trim your existing panel (the method I took) with the "T" shape that holds the two clips on the end of the cargo shade.
