huge front seat belt removal issue

Im in the process of selling all my red interior and switching it out for black interior. i went to remove the upper portion of the seat belt on the passenger side and the rear bolt just spins.... I guess the 'fixed' nut came away from the body and im just trying to see if this might have happened to anyone else??? what you did if it did happen to you? and if anybody has any suggestions on what to do. its an extremely tight area to get to and i really dont want to cut up the body to get to it but if theres no other way around it then so be it!

any help is much appreciated!

Bolts are cheap and easy to get.

Can you just cut the head off the bolt with a Dremel tool?

Shield are that will be hit with sparks with aluminum foil and/or damp paper towels.

hmm never crossed my mind... easy enough solution, but then i would still need to get a nut up there and hold it down somehow when i go to tighten the new bolt into place... hmmm

Well, since you're probably going to need to weld the nut back in anyways, cut the head of the bolt off to get the retractor off, and then hold the remainder of the bolt with locking pliers as you weld the nut back into place. Then undo the remainder of the bolt from the nut.

However, since your nut came loose, I'd be worried about rust up there. I haven't had a problem with either of mine on either side. The lower rear seat bolts, on the other hand...

weird cause i was thinking the same about my lowers but the seals did their jobs pretty well. im not sure if i just broke the nut loose from its tacks or if they were weak but ill have to get a picture or wet cloth up there to find out. hoping for the best haha

Unless, of course, someone cross-threaded it in the past and that's how it got broken in the first place.

The dash as well as the heater module have to be removed... The insulation wraps from just behind where the dash bolts to the cowl lip all the way down to just above the carpet. The front of the carpet has to be lifted to get the other half of the insulation out.
