How do I get the inner window sweep mount screws out? Mine screw into the door and I don't see a way of getting a screwdriver in there...Don't want to mess up the sweep.

Did a search but didn't come up with much.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
What screws? When I take the door card loose I make sure the window is down and tilt it out then off. Never any screws into the top plastic.

The inner sweeps are held on by "melted plastic" sort of like little makeshift pop rivets. Just drill them out. Then, re pop-rivet the new sweep onto each top plastic trim.

EDIT: I read inner sweeps...you are talking about outer sweeps.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
Yeah, I have done a few of these in the past and never saw this before.

I am talking about the sweeps attached to the door panels. The ones on the inside of the window. Mine screw into the doors.

Motobooks, I'll see what I can do. I tried using a screwdriver bit with a ratcheting wrench and it didn't work. Not enough room.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
Perhaps the way the sweeps are attached to the doors varied throughout the years. I remember taking the door panels off of my '91 many years ago with the sweeps still attached to the door panel. In fact, I have a set of absolutely mint '91 GTA door panels with the sweeps attached sitting in a box in my garage.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
Well I have only messed with trans ams but I have never seen them attached with anything to the door.

I have both off my GTA right now and I had to tear the original plastic door liner so I know I was the first to remove them.

I think you may be right, I have done others and never saw this before. First 86 I have attempted to remove them from.

I'll get them out, just being careful because I want to reuse them.

Will try to get pictures and post so everyone can see what I am talking about. Need to get this car out of the garage, great roller, want to get my new GTA I just bought into the shop.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
I had to force a screwdriver holding back the window sweep at the same time. I am not re-installing them so I have no idea how you would ever get them back in. And, for everyone that thinks this is something that isn't stock, the screws are factory....strange...I've removed several of these and never saw this.

FYI.

Re: Inner Window Sweep Removal
Take the whole door panel off,the sill is attached with speed nuts on the reverse side.If you brake them, you can get a new window sill with the sweep attached to it from 1A,I replaced mine when I did the interior over.

Are the holes in your panel ripped bigger? Maybe you can find a few thin washers?

I know I had an issue with a couple of the prongs on the top rail...they snapped off short when I went to remove the nuts...so...I just put the nuts on backwards!! Yes, it works fine! Once the panel is snapped into place on the door, it was all good.

I didn't know they had those! That's actually not a bad price since it comes with the upper rail and sweeps...just look at the price of the inner sweeps alone...
