4th gen console/ other q's
Hey everyone just have a coupe of questions.
For those that are running 4th gen center consoles , where did you relocate the window/ truck switches?
I've seen a couple of people put them in the ash tray. I want to keep them out of site I don't like the look of a bunch of switches.
Does anyone make a plate with smaller switches or anything?
With the power port, where did you guys get the power from ? Or did you just not use it ?
With soder , what is the correct type for automotive?
Please post pics and details if you know the answers
I have 4 switches .
2 window
1. Trunk
3 electric cut out
Thank

1. Power outlet(s): Run power wire from factory lighter socket and down to the connections in the console, and ground to body under the console.
I ran mine using the factory wires, just spliced in the second connector for the second socket, but then I also had a Bird harness, which already had the socket in the console. I also used the factory wiring with the 93 dash and also spliced in the second socket.
2. Window switches: You can go to RadioShack and get a pair of DPDT switches, which look like regular toggle switches, and wire them into your factory connectors if you wish (it's a lot cheaper to replace one of these $5 switches than a $20 factory switch, BTW), or you can possibly make a plate and put your factory switches in the ashtray. With the old setup, I just let my RS switches float in the ashtray, but now I'm running a window switch out of a 88-93 Grand Prix (I'd advise against this as the connector is a royal pain to get connected and you have to modify the ashtray and switch housing to do this).
3. Hatch/cutout switches: Mount them to the rear of the shift plate facing the rear of the car under the console lid. There usually isn't anything there that can/will be in the way, and since you probably don't use them often, it may be an idea worth looking at. You may need to modify the front of the console compartment to fit the switches, however. The Bird hatch release was in the dash and the 93's is behind the glove box lid (as above).

Re: 4th gen console/ other q's
I am starting to do this mod as well. I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a couple Qs. I got a center console out of a 97 (more cupholders
) and realize the bolt holes, especially the one behind the shifter, are different. How do you bolt it to the floor? And also, where do you put the console mounted power mirror switch?

People put the switches in the ashtray mostly , a company called emblempro makes switch pannels for it.
On mounting it I am not sure.
