What year is this out of?

Short story: I have the attached speedo, I want to sell it but have no idea what year it's out of.

Long story: Back in 1990, my brother had a 1984 Camaro IROC-Z. He bought the attached speedo from someone & wanted to put it in (it's a 140 mph and says "Z28" on it, they told him it would fit. He never got around to installing, then the car got stolen. He kept this for years & recently gave it to me when I bought my 1985 IROC. I put it in my basement and didn't think much of it.

Recently, I decided to go with all aftermarket gauges. After installing, I remembered this speedo & decided to try and sell it. However, when I got it out I realized that its drastically different than the stock IROC gauge - its only 140 mph (not 145), and the trip odometer reset is on the side & not the bottom. I'm guessing it's out of a 2nd gen but I really don't know. Any info?

cool find-that speedo was avalible from dealer parts and yours has the earlier '82-84 style tapered pointer instead of the '85-89 stepped pointer. There may be a date of manufacture stamped on the back of the dial.I think the '82 actual pace cars have this speedo.

Re: What year is this out of?

IIRC, the above speedo was available from Classic Industries years ago. As noted, the reset is positioned differently and as a consequence required a different gauge cover.

Re: What year is this out of?

I noticed that the **** is missing from the end of the trip odometer reset - I imagine finding one of those is pretty much impossible. Kind of a bummer as I think this is pretty cool, but I doubt anyone will want to use it without that and also knowing they have to find the correct cover. Oh well.
