92 camaro hatch motor
I have a 1992 camaro rs. It has a electric hatch release. I have never had issues with the hatch until recently, as i opened the hatch the motor kept running continuously, in addition i could not close my hatch (motor stuck in up position i believe). I did a search on this website and I found a few threads in which a member who owned Top Down Solutions commented, claiming the gear nut as the culprit. I disassembled the hatch mechanism and the gear nut had some broken teeth on it. I inspected the housing and it looked to be in good condition. I ordered a new gear nut from GM with a p/n found on this website, re-lubricated the plastic guides, metal housing, motor gear, and gear nut with white lithium spray, Re-assembled the mechanism with a new gear nut and bolted it in. I was able to close my hatch, but the motor now shows no sign of life. The hatch will not close all the way, in other words the latch will hold and lock it, but the motor will not pull the hatch down. The electric release button in the interior will not release the hatch or power the motor, nor will the key turn. Deductive reasoning would state there is a problem with my assembly, but the mounting plate looks flush as you can see in my first picture, and the gear nut fit well into the grooves of the plastic motor and housing. Is it possible that when the gear nuts teeth broke, causing the motor to run constantly, that a relay was fried? I checked the fuse marked Lid and Power Acc. Both good. Is that a relay in my second picture, inside the circle? Is the connector in my third picture(im assuming power 2 motor) supposed to receive 12v when the electric release is triggered, or when the key is turned as well? Also, I removed the cover of the hatch motor, looked inside of it, and screwed it back on. Could this have damaged the motor? I have read that it is not a good idea to remove that cover. Edit- i was not able to upload pictures for some reason. The first picture i refer to shows the black cover of the gear nut mounted flushly. The second shows a black box mounted close to the hatch, with wires extending towards it. it looks like a relay. The third shows the motor cover and the connector above it.
