91 camaro rs lo3 tach not working
so this is my first post here guys. ive already used this site gobs for tech info since i got my rs about two weeks ago. always wanted one since i was about 5. just got the trans mount and master cylinder replaced yesterday. every thing is working well but the instrument cluster. tach is going nuts which ive found that a lot of them are like that. but ive been searching for someone who would repair it because to get one that is guaranteed to work is 500 bucks. anyone got any contacts for refurbishing these bad boys? or a good vendor to buy a working one from that has a money back guarantee?
Re: 91 camaro rs lo3 tach not working
There is a sticky thread on here somewhere that gives the procedures to repair the tach. It's a relatively easy project. The cost for parts is less than $2.00. Add about $20. if you have to buy a small, low heat soldering iron.

omg now that is some homework. i guess tommorow im going to sit down and do some learning. no experience with stuff like this (using an ohmeter, soldering, so on) thanks so much Spaceboy1980 for the reference was driving myself crazy looking for the thread. idk though this is pretty intimidating will let you guys know what happens but if anyone here is confident and wants to fix it for me i would rather pay someone else to do it....not kidding. but i always like to save a buck so i might try depending on how i feel after reading.

Re: 91 camaro rs lo3 tach not working
wow guys actually its not that difficult besides the soldering. which i have no experience doing but i could find someone who does locally. after reading and understanding the logic behind this its pretty impressive what 92 blue did. im assuming that mine has continuity because i registers about double at idle so im going to snip the legs. which theoretically i think it would work if you snipped the legs either way??? just a thought. thanks for the help guys.

If you are not confident in your soldering skills or just don't want to bother with it, I sell repaired tach chips for 90-92 camaros and replacement tachs for 82-89 camaros for $35 including shipping + $10 core. If you send me yours as a core, I will deduct the $10.
thanks, Greg

I see you pimping your service all over these boards, you do know you need to be a supporter or vendor to do so don't you? Seems kind of unfair to those that are paying their fees.

Re: 91 camaro rs lo3 tach not working
I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. I am only trying to help out the members of this community by offering repaired parts at a good price that are otherwise unobtainable or too exspensive. I sell repaired tachs. Not a service. A core is optional. I understand that interjecting a sales pitch in a thread is a bit taboo, but since the OP asked who fixes them, I offered a solution.
Thanks, Greg

I don't make the rules, nor am I a supporter or vendor. Not stepping on my toes. But I do know there are fees for providing services here. Even if it's just a virtual service with no physical product involved like chip burning.
