console removal 85 camaro
sorry to bother you guys but I have been struggling for hours with trying to remove the console and looked thru all my books, etc.
I have a 700-r4 with a parking brake level that is frozen. It appears afet loosening the screws for the "cover of the console and freeing that up, I cannot move it up and back because of the handle beeing down-OR am I missing the boat
If that is the case how can I remove the console base with the top still on? I am not doing this to fix the parking brake I am just trying to clean out the interior for a new carpet eventually.PLS Help - thanks tom

I assure you it is not simple to me and I now have the console loose where i can move it all but only an inch or so
I was not planning on removing the shifter, dashboard or seats, and/or parking brake in order to do this, but would appreciate some guidance so I don't create more work
thank-you
tom

Re: console removal 85 camaro
Thanks alot motobooks-This is the exact console I have and I did all that except I cannot move the ebrake LEVEL ( I got the pistol grip handle off) so I guess in order to remove the top console trim piece I need to get the handle up which I cannot get to with the shifter in the way and limited access because of the top plate of the console unable to be out of the way-The video you sent is an excellent reply, I've used those before and didnt think to look for this.
Any more help on the easiest way to get the handle either off or moved to the up position?? I assume that somewhere in the brake cable is frozen and really don't want to mess with that now (thanks again motobooks for you help)

Re: console removal 85 camaro
I finally got the ****en console out-I unbolted the shifter for a little more room and saw 3 bolts, 2 on the floor where the parking brake is attached and 1 holding a bracket with an electrical connection which was in the way of 1 of the floor bolts-somehow I got these off and the park brake handle could be lifted-it came right out without me breaking it after the handle was movable. Amen
I couldn't have done it without your help and moral support. THANKS
The morals of this story-
1. Get motobooks home phone and cell numbers
2. Clean around the console when you clean your carpet or get more floor mats.
3. Make sure your parking brake handle moves upward before you attempt this job.
