Inner A/C Heater Box Help

Is there any differences in the inner heater box from 1982-1992? Firebird vs Camaro? Carb vs Fuel Injection? I see pictures of them for sale and everyone seems to have different parts.. Some have a type of bracket attached to the right side of the box and other don't. Can someone please explain because I need a new one for my car but it is a daily driver so I don't really want to pull it all apart just to check. I know lazy, but wanna save some time. Thanks!

Re: Inner A/C Heater Box Help

I can't speak from direct experience, but here is my observation, based on lots of
experience. One of the main differences between 'Birds & 'Maros is the dash.
(Other is front & rear bumpers/tailights. Duh...) So I would not be willing to bet
much money or time, that the HVAC boxes are interchangable. So the safest path is
to find something from an equivalent model. It may take awhile, but these models
can still be found in wrecking yards. But you have to be on the alert, and ready to
move when you find one. Start w/ Craigslist search for your city.

Good luck.

Re: Inner A/C Heater Box Help

Interior AC and exterior AC heater core boxes are exactly the same from Camaro to Firebird.

Interior Heater and exterior heater core boxes are exactly the same from Camaro to Firebird.

Interior AC and Non-AC heater core boxes are NOT the same.

82-89 interior non-AC heater boxes are cable controlled,..... 90-92 non-AC heater boxes are Vacuum operated (same as other 82-92 AC units. )

Some interior heater boxes have additional relays and solenoids screwed to them due to the special design of those systems ( IE: Berlinetta and GTA )

In many cases a used Heater core box will have the vacuum lines still connected to it. There are at least 2 versions of the harness,.... One type has a single vacuum line leading to the engine bay (82-86) & the other has 2 vacuum line connections in the engine bay (87-92).
