Seat Identification
Happy 2014 fellow ThirdGeners... I am a new member and very happy to be here. Having purchased my 1st Thirdgen last year in December (on the same day that my wife went into labor with our twin daughters) I've been too busy to to do anything but read posts in forums and look at photos in between feedings.
In the past few days a schedule has been established and now dad can get into the garage a bit and get started.
And now that I've bored you all with my life blatherings... The seat. I purchased a 1984 Trans Am from an older guy in Ballard, WA who had visions of restoring it but never got past pulling the headliner out and putting a stereo in (sort of). Being it's winter in Washington, I've got her in the garage on jack stands, and will begin with engine/tranny maintenance and repair, and the restoration of the interior.
My question today is about these seats. I recall seeing these in a friends F-body back when I was in high school in the early 90's, but don't recall what car he had exactly. They have adjustable bolsters high and low, lumbar, and what I can only describe as a knee bolster that slides out from the front. Who made these seats? Did they come in an '84 TA? Does anyone still work on them? Can you purchase new or replacement ones?
While my research time has been pretty limited, I've not seen one site that even talks about these seats yet. So... I reach out to you folks for some information.
Thank You.

Re: Seat Identification
My 85 TA has seats very similar to those. Mine are different colors and I don't believe mine have the upper lumbar ( I don't recall seeing the extra **** on the side), but everything else is the same.

Re: Seat Identification
They are Lear Siegler Conteur Buckets and they were factory Installed by GM. You can find a lot of info on them here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...o-conteur.html
Most of the info is Camaro related but there might be some Firebird info in there too.
Only the Firebirds got the special seats on BOTH sides of the car. I heard that there was a production problem and the matching pass side seat was eliminated in the Camaro version.
I've gotten this style seats from 84 and 85 Trans am's in teh past.

Re: Seat Identification
I have a set just like that from an 85. Going in my 85 after they get recovered.
good to know there were some in 84s as well.
Recovering will be a full custom job, no covers or anything available.

Re: Seat Identification
These things are BY FAR my favorite style ThirdGen seat. They are heavy as hell - but soooo cool ! They seem to be more 'firm' than most Thirdgen seats and there is a great deal of adjustment allowed at the upper and lower bolsters. They are even more comfortable/better than the GTA "ultima" styled seats IMO.
I had a set custom re-covered and installed in my Berlinetta years ago, and I know that there are several other members here have also done the same. ( Camaro and Firebird guys ) When my car was an Automatic I used the leg bolster often,... but now it's a stick & I just about never use the leg bolster anymore.
I've never seen any new repro, NOS seats, seat covers, or seat parts available anywhere for these things. Used LSC seats are "hard" to find and almost always need of upholstery work.
