Gauge color change 84 Trans AM
I just took apart my gauges to replace the speedo and while I am in there I wanted to change the color.
All the bulbs inside were plain and it looks like the color comes from the gauges them selves.

The bezel was also painted orange. Should I repaint these the color of me replacement LED bulbs? Maybe white?

Re: Gauge color change 84 Trans AM
Well I started the conversion, I ordered some good wide angle blue LED bulbs. Then I painted each orange section with reflective white paint.
I tested it with a 445nm laser and it reflected well so I am hoping the LEDs wavelength will be close enough.
I will post pics when it is done.
I also painted the needles from orange to white.

OK the conversion is complete and it turned out great.
I changed the backlight to blue, added a 140mph speedo and changed the needles from orange to white
First I converted the back of the gauges from orange to gloss white

Then I taped off and did the same with the front bezel. I also repainted the front part black.

Then I painted all the needles white

I used these bulbs for the blue back light 194 wedge bulbs with 5 LEDs

My first time lighting it up I found too many cold spots.

There were some empty spaces in the cluster so I scraped the mask from the traces and added more bulbs. here is the final result

I am really pleased
