Heater core access 1987 with A/C

Hi, i have purchased a 87 Iroc with A/C I am just putting the finishing touches on getting it ready for spring driving. When I purchased it was sitting for about 5 to 6 years and mice built numerous nests inside I have found all except one in heater box turn on the blower and wow it really smells BAD Does any one have a exploded view of heater core removal with A/c that is where they I think they have made good size home Any guidance will be appreciated.

Re: Heater core access 1987 with A/C

access to the heater core is no sweat. pull the hush panel and you will see a box, this box has about 6 or so 7mm screws. the hardest to reach is the one on top. on birds we can pull the panel just under the pouch and use a flexi-stinsion to access it.

once the box is of you will see the core that is held in by a frame and 4 7mm screws. with the hoses off in the eng bay this frame will come out fairly easy. this will allow access to the core area and to the other side of the core for cleaning.

you DO NOT need to re move the dash pad for any of this.

You don't need to remove the dash pad, but it makes it much easier to get the top screw of the heater box. Unlike the Firebirds, the top screw on the box is not easy to get your hands on. I found that if you take the dash pad off and remove the speaker, you can get your hands in there easier to get the screw out and back in. I also find it really easy to work on with the front seat removed. A few extra minutes to remove the seat and dash pad will make the job so much easier and less frustrating. It will take you longer to get the screw out by not removing the dash pad then the entire removal and re installation combined.
