Just got a new catalog in the mail and thought I would share this because it seems like there are lots of people looking for this interior.

 

Thats cool. The price is steep tho but well worth it if you want the correct seats for the car

Yes. That is possible as a special order item. It would need to be prepaid, and would be non-returnable, though. Color match to the rest of the original upholstery, of course, could not be guaranteed due to possible sun fade issues, differences in fabric dye lots, etc. Fronts only would be $599.99. I would have to set up the part numbers in the system as they are currently not set up as a front only set. But, I would be happy to do that if Thirdgen.org members felt there would be demand for fronts only.

It would be relatively easy to acquire a sample of the material used for the outer portion of the upholstery, but samples of the insert material would be more difficult, if not impossible to acquire due to the material being a very expensive, non-stocking special order material

 

Actually, I've found the blue bolster material is the hardest to match. I've gotten different samples and there are several different types. None are the actual factory material. The factory stuff feels almost like headliner material.

The "Camaro" insert material seems to be the same, regardless of where it comes from.

 

I would guess that is because the insert material originates from a single source. I highly doubt that there is more than one source for that "Camaro Logo" raw material because it is highly specialized and unusual. It could possibly even be leftover NOS material, but that is just a suspicion, and I have no way to confirm that.

Can the front seats be ordered in standard materials like black?
I have the l/s seats for a firebird, so no Camaro logo wanted.

 

Too bad the Firebird style is still not available.

 

We could certainly special order a set of upholstery with a different insert. However, we cannot guarantee that it will fit a Firebird. How certain are you that the seats are the same as Camaro?

 

Why are the door panels listed as 80-81 instead of 82-85?

 

The firebirds has the l/s seat option in 84-85, pretty sure the seat was the same except the passenger had the same adjustments as the drivers, which I don't think was true on Camaros. They came in the usual two color firebird cloth scheme.
Don't know if I'm willing to be the Guinea pig for those.
Think I'll just get a upholstery shop to make them, looks like it will end up being about the same price. Thanks for the reply.

 

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have corrected the year range. It was a data entry error for web description. In the printed catalog, it is correctly listed as 82-85.

Understood. Don't blame you at all. It is quite the gamble to be the guinea pig. But, it sure would be nice to know if it would fit, because I think it would help out a lot of Thirdgen Firebird owners. If there is anyone out there that can confirm this suspicion about the Firebird seats, we would appreciate the input and are willing to try to work with the factory to develop a solution for the 84-85 Bird owners.

 

The bolster material on these seats is velour unlike the original seats.

If only Classic can provide us with a molded hood insulation, I'd be taking advantage of the 20% off. I also need to call them and request a catalog. I haven't received one in years. I check the website from time to time looking for specific parts, but I don't just flip through the web pages and maybe find something I need/want like I do with the paper catalog. I see they are selling the tshirt that has my car on it though!!!

 

I'd be in for a proper molded hood insulation, too. In fact, I'd take two.

 

The first thing I want to mention is that these covers will probably not fit regular bucket seats correctly. If you intend to buy a set of replacement covers - I would only consider it if you already have the proper LSC front bucket seat frames.

Second: Regarding the Camaro LSC seats, The pass side seat bottom ( and cover ) are not the same as a regular Camaro passenger seat. The picture provided by Classic Industries shows this clearly. The pass side front seat bottom has additional padding compared to normal Camaro seats,..... similar to some later Firebird seats.

Third: There are at least 2 different types of seat covers used from the factory from 82-85. In 82-83 Camaros there was a "padded" backrest and in 84-85 Camaro there was a "flat" backrest. This appears to be the opposite of the Firebird LSC seats..... in 84 the bucket seat covers were "flat" and the 85 version was "padded"

Fourth: Camaros got a "squared" headrest, The Firebird version was more "rounded",...... although the 85 TA LSC seat might have gotten a squared headrest too. The adjustable leg bolster might also be shaped a bit different from Camaro to Firebird.


I'm throwing this information out there because I want to help avoid buyers from being surprised that the new replacement covers might not be exactly as expected - depending on the seats that they are attempting to re-cover.


P.S. Color range is applicable to 84-85 Camaro and the covers appear to have the proper "flat" type seat cover for those Camaro years. ( Black was 85 only and other 3 colors are 84 only.) Also; The "red" should be called "orange" ( or "Charcoal" as labled by the factory ) because a true "red" color CAMARO spectrum fabric was available only in 85 and it's NOT the same as the more familiar ''Charcoal"' that's currently advertized.

Ok, john, I was told mine came from an 85 (not the 85 I own) but they look like the 84 you pictured. What do you think?

Yup,..... Sure looks like the 'flat' style seat covers to me !


Also; another detail I left out is that Firebird front bucket seat covers have a large 'pocket' on the back,.... Camaro LS seats do not.

 

Thanks John. Good to know. Guess I'm still getting mine done custom. Have to be black anyway. My 85 project has parts from 85-91 on it, now I can say 84-91!

 

Im still hoping for a reproduction of the camaro leather steering wheel. I want to put my original one away to preserve it. But I really like the stock wheel and don't want to use anything else. Im sure a lot of other people want a new wheel as well.

 

Do your 83 and 85 cars have this interior? I always liked it. Wish they would have had it in 87.

 

I bought a blue L/S interior, including door panels for my '83. The front seats need to be redone, however.

I've never been able to find the correct bolster fabric, however. Classic Industries was good enough to send me a sample of the bolster fabric they'll be using and it's very velour like. The factory bolster fabric is different, more like headliner material, plus it looks like the factory version is also darker in color.
