upholstering my new seat foam

so ,after concluding that I will not find a good drivers seat. im buying a new foam and spring assy. from hawks. question is ,is there a sticky or tutorial on how to correctly remove /replace the seat upholstery? a how to for dummies? im feeling like its a one shot deal. looks like you have to get it right the first time.or it will look like total crap. any upholsterers out there feeling like helping a geezer out?

Is it cloth? Should be some hog rings and j clips, not a huge deal, honestly!

Just put them on the same way they came off.

Some handsome upholstery there Ron. Thanks for giving me something else to wish for. No more purchases like that until she is parked for the winter though.

Re: upholstering my new seat foam

I have heard of people re-purposing the passenger seat for the drivers side. It might be an option to look into, but I know the holes from the seat belt retainer are going to show on the inside.

There should be a few local upholstery shops that can provide foam and possibly advice if you buy from them. Wouldn't hurt to ask how much to do it for you as well.

I don't think it's necessarily a one shot deal. You can always buy more foam etc., and I'm pretty sure it's possible to have to try it a couple of times to get it right. Upholstery is a skilled trade imo, not impossible to learn, but not something like bolting on a hard part.

Youtube should have plenty of videos on the subject as well.

I did this 15 years ago when I got my car. There are also 2 holes from the recliner mech that will be hidden by the console, for the most part. It was pretty easy, I even reused the hog rings. I wound up with the same tears on the seams again after 6 years. Sewn back up to hold me over for now. I try to be conscious of how I get in and out of the car now, not to slide my **** down the seam. The scalloped edge on the inside of the welt is what does the damage. Going new covers or 4th gen next time.

Good to hear, I'm surprised that it wore out so quick.
FWIW, I had a set of 4th Gen seats and I felt that they weren't as comfortable as the originals and they always seemed out of place to me. Plus the (broken) recliner handle would catch my back pocket every time I got in. I ended up selling them within a year or so.

6'3''- 240# with a bad back, getting in and out of a car so low, I would just flop in it. Plus, it was just a car back then. Parts were bountiful in yards. Used and abused, drove it year round. Has a much easier life now, semi retired.

I see. Yeah, that used to be one of the benefits of driving a Thirdgen and I've done the same. Now parts aren't as easy to obtain.
