of my two sets of tops the ones from each set that do not lock have trim that does not have a lock hole in them. Will the trim and seals swap from the plastic tops to the glass tops? The rubber is shot on my glass tops and leaks but I like them much more than the plastic tops

Re: Rare interior options?

As for the patterns, just take the deluxe seats of each year they were available and add a bolster. The leather versions have all the seating area in single color leather. The headrests, sides and backs are cloth :
Here's some leather camel tan L/S seats from an '84 :

My T/A is one unusual Firebird, with some uncommon options : 5.0L HO 5 speed, L/S seats, UU6+UQ7 stereo, friggin light sand gray interior for which parts are a pain to find in good condition, lockable T-Tops.
She's not missing many options.

Re: Rare interior options?
Just a heads up. If you are going to use that lockable storage cover in your car, you should go get the body mounts off the car you got it from. There are 2 sheetmetal mounts welded to the car that have the studs on them that the cover mounts to. Drill out the welds and grab em.
BTW- anything Recaro in a Trans Am has some rarity as well. in the early years they were part of appearance packages but later on they could be had as just an add on option.

Re: Rare interior options?
I went from factor plastic to glass on mine. No issues. The parts are interchangable, however, some had a small extruding tubes if you will and some have large ones. Mine are the larger ones. These are the plastic tubes that slide into the car to hold the T-Top down when you move the lever on them inside. Then you could lock them with the same key you use for the door and hatch. The plastic ones will warp and crack over time like mine did. The glass ones are much heavier but are the way to go.

I hear if its in decent condition its pretty hard to find, might want to invest in some seat covers if your seats are in good shape.

I'm sure they weren't ordered in low quantity but you rarely see them today - the deluxe luggage compartment trim carpeted panels. If anyone knows of a supplier who makes the carpet pieces, please let me know - I need to restore the ones in my 87.

They are sun faded and the driver side is torn but passenger and rear seats are not. I was thinking of selling the car don't have time to restore it. It just sits which hurts me I would like to see someone do something with it.

Someone makes them, or did. I remember seeing them in a restoration catalog about a decade ago, but haven't noticed them since. I don't remember what company it was either. Might have been The Paddock.

I got one of those cargo covers too. I got the one with the bose speakers. I also have some polaris snowmobiles. On the air boxes the sleds have rubber grommets that have a metal threaded insert in them. You can buy replacement ones at you hardware store in various sizes. That's what I used to mount my cargo cover. Just drill the holes and push in the grommets.

Re: Rare interior options?
Has anyone mentioned the original automatic dimming rear view mirror? Pretty uncommon... Originally they had a solenoid that would change it from day to night, they would go "dink" when they changed. I know at one point if you had one under warranty that went bad they would swap them out with the Liquid Crystal ones like I have in my cars...

Re: Rare interior options?
If that is the Pontiac side of things, I have 2 cars right now and I have an extra set of the rear speaker enclosures just waiting for me to modify...
Never thought they were "rare" BUT they are uncommon, and difficult to find in working condition.
I definitely see more of those than the BOSE radios in the Camaro... Funny thing, I believe the only reason why the Pontiac did not get the BOSE was it would have made the car weigh too much for so many years... Like the GTA not getting the rear shade or the UQ7 speakers in 1987 because of weight.

Re: Rare interior options?
I know the push button radio had a lot to do with the quality of sound... the replacement radios just did not have the sound of the original radio... talked to people that had the original UQ7 radio stolen and the GM replacement was not the same.

Re: Rare interior options?
IIRC all A/C cars should have gotten the "green tint" however with a non-A/C car you could have ordered the green tint separately.
Clear was no longer available after 1988 As far as I can tell...
Anywhere between 95 - 99% of the Camaros & Firebirds out there got the Tinted glass depending on the year ...
The Firebird had a higher percentage with the tinted glass.

Re: Rare interior options?
After keeping an eye out for 15 I found a windshield with a chip and a wiper scrape. I call it movie glass beause I remember seeing a few different cars in movies over the years and they had no tint to make it easier to see into the car. Also old sales brochures have a some in them, agian to make it easier to see inside. Just look for the blue band at the top of the windshields the non tint cars do not have them.

Re: Rare interior options?
It is the lack of options that cuase these pieces to be uncommon. I think the left side gets the fog light switch and the right side gets the switch for the rear defrost. That style dash was not available for to long. A lot of cars from those years had fog lights and most cars from those years had rear defrost.

I've got a set of those black vinyl seats in my 85 TA. I agree they are hard to find, I've been looking for close to a year and still have yet to find another seat to make patches from.
Re: Rare interior options?
Hi Guys, I'm beginning to see how much info. is available on this forum. I spent almost 7 years restoring my '68 Camaro so I know the importance of forums like this. Anyway I'll play along with this thread, I haven't seen the seats with headrests that can be adjusted forward and back mentioned yet. My '88 Trans AM has them, are they a rare option? RonM

Re: Rare interior options?
It sounds like you have ultima "gta" seats in your car. If they are original to the car they would be uncommon as they mostly appeared in gtas but could be optioned in TAs as well.
Re: Rare interior options?
I've owned the car for about 20 years but it doesn't take long to swap out a pair of seats so I don't know if they are original. They do match the rest of the interior. I got a copy of the window sticker when I bought the car, so I dug it out and took a look. With regards to the seats, they are listed under option B20 Luxury Trim Group. Which consists of luxury seats, frt & rr w/cloth tr, luxury drs, split folding rr seat, cowl kick panel - carpeted. Does that sound like the "ultima seats" to you guys. Thanks for any info., RonM.

I have the B20 Also, and the seats your describing are not what I have.A pic would be nice.
You should check for the RPO code for your seats, mine is AR9

Re: Rare interior options?
The RPO for the High Performance Articulating Seat for a 1988 Trans Am is AQ9. It's not listed on the dealer invoice but it is on the RPO list in the console of my car. That solves that mystery. But it may still be grouped under RPO B20 on the dealer invoice because the cost for that option on my car is $623.00. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems pretty high for a deluxe interior. Hope this helps, RonM.

Re: Rare interior options?
In 86 that B20 was $359.00 with the AR9, So I would think that price would be grouped in the cost.Yours would be more because of the AQ9,much better seats.
