So I finally got my 82 back on the road with a new 388. The problem is my tach only goes up to 6k rpms, the 388 can do 8 or 9 before red lining. Where can I find a drop in tach replacement? preferably on a budget.

 

What kind of cam do you have in that formula 1 motor ??

Basic Operating RPM Range:3,000-6,500 ?

Am I missing something? or do you mean 6,800 -6,900 or 8-9,000 rpm?

 

It's been a 3 year project, so I missed that stat. Now I'm really confused...when I tuned my carb I opened all 4 barrles and it took my tach all the way back to 1000 rpms, like past 6000. So I asked the guy who is helping me tune the carb and he said 9000 rpms for the engine.... should this be posted in the engine foru?

 

yrs ago,i bought an '84 firebird cluster that had an 8000 rpm tach with redline at 6000-it may have came from an L69 H.O,AFAIK,84 cluster is pretty much the same as '82 except orange lighting .
