Horn button

I recently acquired an 82-84ish Firebird steering wheel, since the one in my 92 looks like it belongs in a mini-van. It's the one with the three spokes, and a firebird etched into the rubber horn button. I had a brilliant idea of trying to paint the etched part white, and was wondering what you guys would think would be the best route.

I've heard of people using nail polish and remover or paint marker and simple green to blob all over the place and clean it off afterwards. Should I just go ahead and do that?
